Stud Terminals are often used in environments that are subject to severe vibration, they are different to Screw Clamp and Spring Clamp Terminals in that they use a threaded stud (rather than offering a compression based wiring clamp). The stud connection terminals are DIN rail mounted for ease of installation. The cable to be connected is terminated with a ring type ferrule and this ferrule is placed over the stud terminal. The terminal nut is then torqued down on the ring ferrule to ensure a connection that cannot come loose. Stud terminals are commonly used in higher power applications for incoming and outgoing mains power connections, or connection to transformer taps. The usual configuration of this type of terminal is a one in one out feed through arrangement. Different versions are available for varying applications usually influenced by installation location. For example, some stud terminals are fully shrouded by a built in raisable cover (raise the cover, connect the wire and then click the cover back down). Other terminal types have side (phase) separators but leave the stud and current bar exposed. These would be used for better heat dissipation when installed inside a user non-accessible enclosure or panel. Both terminal types are still DIN rail mounting.
